There’s a new teaser for Yorgos Lanthimos’ hotly anticipated Kinds of Kindness, and this time it mainly features the director’s Poor Things collaborator Emma Stone dancing to Cobrah’s song “Brand New Bitch”.The video is only 26 seconds — its main purpose is to confirm that the movie will be showing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, in select theatres on June 21 — but there’s plenty of dancing Stone alongside shots of other famous cast members including Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. var facebookPixelLoaded = false; window.addEventListener('load', function(){ document.addEventListener('scroll', facebookPixelScript); document.addEventListener('mousemove', facebookPixelScript); }) function facebookPixelScript() { if (!facebookPixelLoaded) { facebookPixelLoaded = true; document.removeEventListener('scroll', facebookPixelScript); document.removeEventListener('mousemove', facebookPixelScript); !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s){if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod? n.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments)};if(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n; n.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version='2.0';n.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0; t.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)}(window, document,'script','//https://lnkd.in/eY9zQvVb'); fbq('init', '1453039084979896'); fbq('track', "PageView"); } }Source link By Nakisisa George

In light of the evolving landscape of film consumption, it's clear that the industry is shifting away from a one-size-fits-all model, acknowledging that audiences now have diverse preferences for how they experience storytelling. With the widespread adoption of 4K large screens and advanced sound systems in homes, some films are now being crafted specifically for in-home viewing. These may feature characteristic tailored to this environment. Additionally, with the advent of devices like Apple's ProVision, some films will be made for a more dramatic immersive personal experiences that leverages this viewing technology. Conversely, certain films will still be designed with the theatrical experience in mind, capitalizing on the unique communal atmosphere that only cinemas can provide. This bifurcation signifies a broader transformation within the industry, leading to a richer variety of storytelling methods and greater opportunities for creators and audiences alike.Theaters, in response, would do well to heed Theodore Levitt's advice and reconsider their core business proposition. It's no longer just about movies in theaters, but about showcasing the movie viewing experience to audience whether it is in-theaters, in-home, or directly in the viewers eyes through an in-goggle immersive experience. Ultimately, it's about curating the movies to audiences. By embracing this paradigm, theaters can remain relevant and vital in an increasingly segmented market.

Rewatching Cinema Paradiso with my son—while keeping a parental filter on. Caught a scene towards the end where there’s a belief that home video would spell the end of theatres. You’d need to see the movie to fully grasp the context. Made in 1988, it traces a small Italian town’s cinema theatre through the protagonist’s nostalgic journey, chronicling the post-WWII era to the 80s, just as VCPs and VCRs were gaining popularity in the late 80s.The end suggests that home video might end the theatre experience. Fast forward to today: VHS, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays—they’ve come and gone, but theatres remain, stronger than ever. A classic example of the Lindy effect, which Taleb describes as the idea that the longer something has survived, the longer it’s likely to endure. Maybe there’s a lesson here for today’s anxieties and fears about new technology as well.#LindyEffect #TechnologyTrends #ClassicCinema

Start funding the arts again. Keep funding the arts. Film, media, dance, music, visual arts and many more creative endeavors enrich our culture and add life and vibrancy to our cities, towns and country. It builds community. It brings people in from all over the world. It brings Canadians out into the rest of the world. All of that is at risk for pretty much ALL arts organizations now. Due to lack of funding. Due to cost of living. Due to the fact that many places were (rightfully) closed for YEARS and funding didn't cover that shortfall. We want our next Celine? Our next wave of powerhouse comedians? Our Cronenbergs? Our Karen Cains? It requires funding. It. Requires. Support.

How do regional film festivals ensure that the movies they play get reviewed? What festivals do this best? How can others improve? Granted, SXSW is generally considered to be in the top 2 or 3 most important national & generalist film festivals in the USA, but I am impressed by how many reviews they generate. What are their Best Practices For Generating Film Reviews?
