Harold E. Jennings Wellness Park Dedication InvitationThis sounds like a perfect reason to have another All-Class Mini Reunion. Why not? It's on a Friday afternoon and it's a time of celebration for all us who knew Mr. Jennings.
Thank you, Jeff, Ernie and Ken for doing all of this for us...and especially for Mrs. Mary Jennings. Maybe someone could take a picture of the memorial scene and send it to those of us who will not be able to attend the dedication.

Jennings Memorial CeremonyI took my camera to the Jennings walk dedication ceremony yesterday, but when I started to take the first picture realized that there was no memory card in my camera, which is the digital equivalent of being out of film. I had intended to send the pictures along for the interest of classmates who could not attend, but, alas, due to my forgetfulness there are no pictures to send. Instead of pictures, I will try to provide a few snapshots in words.
Snapshot one: Mary Jennings, her face tanned and beatific, her smile glorious as she tries to hold an enormous pink hat in place in the blustering afternoon wind.
Snapshot two: A large flock of seabirds descending from what had seemed an empty sky, diving and circling above the memorial at precisely the moment when the ceremony was to begin; Mary pointing up at them and shouting, Those are from Harold. Hes here now too! The birds circled for a time as we watched and then disappeared as suddenly as they had appeared.
Snapshot three: Mr. Jenning sister (I think her name was Carol) singing the 19th Psalm, her gentle voice lifted heavenward by the wind like the birds.
Snapshot four: Students and good friends speaking of the healing presence Harold Jennings brought into their lives. One friend of Mr Jennings, a black lady whose name I did not get, recounted a funny story of how she came to regard Harold as her brother. Another, a former student sang He touched Me, Mr. Jennings favorite song.
Snapshot five: Ken Tollison, Mike Sutton, Ernie Tuten and Bob Coleman standing together with spouses and friends during the ceremony.
Snapshot five: The Mayor of Brunswick speaking of the influence of Mr. Jennings on the community.
Snapshot six: Jeff Kilgore in dark suit and even darker sunglasses, master of ceremonies for the afternoon and the man who guided this project to such a meaningful conclusion on such a beautiful afternoon. He gave special mention to the class of 67 for providing a large portion of the money for the project.

I went to the Jennings Memorial Dedication and it was a nice service. Harold was my history teacher the first year he taught. I loved History and made straight As. Harold told everybody for years I was the smartest one in the class. Before he died I got to spend a lot of time with him and Mary and I enjoyed it so much. I really loved Harold.

Mr. Jennings was a big part of why I do what I am doing this very night, at 4:00 a.m.. I am still teaching, at age 59 and counting.... due to his awareness of the needs of each student sitting in his classes. I was there, and I needed help and guidance. He gave it to me, a new student at Glynn Academy, in 1966. He did all the paperwork for me to obtain a teacher's scholarship to Georgia Southern.
Here we are in 2008, and I am still on the path he helped create for me.
Thank you, Mr. Jennings, for being what a teacher really should be, a bridge to the future. God bless you, Mr. Jennings, and to your life partner and inspiration, Mary. What a beautiful legacy for these two exceptional friends.

Billy,
I think C-SPAN is taping 5:00-6:00 at Hattie's bookstore downtown. I'm not sure if it airs live, but for sure it will be broadcast several times in the coming weeks on CSPAN. The booksigning is from 3:00-8:00.Downtown Brunswick businesses will be open for the evening, too. Our out-of-town readers will be proud of the beautification efforts, buildings and little parks restored, and crepe myrtle trees run down the center of Newcastle, just lovely.

Bob Dart's Book Report...Billy, Classmates, and Friends of 67,
Bob Dart, hometown son and author was a hit as he read and talked about his new book Down Home - Dispatches From Dixie in Hattie's Bookstore, Newcastle St., downtown Brunswick. I'm sure Bob will send you the dates it will air on CSPAN's Book Talk. Mayor Bryan Thompson began the program with a fine welcome home introduction.
Starting with his interview with Junior Samples, Bob proved his point several times over that the South has real stories you just can't make up.
CSPAN had the store lit up like a tv studio, with a camera and a big overhead microphone. The crew taped Bob and the people in the audience as they asked questions.
It was great to see our '67 classmates along with Bob's wife Sherry Rogers Dart, his mother-in-law Mrs. Rogers, brothers Bill and Don and family and his '64 classmates, including Diana S. Cason who is a great English teacher at Glynn Academy, and my sister-in-law Vicki Ream, who was trampled by a horse the day before. She's a trooper, coming in with horse prints, barely walking, to see Bob. Marsha Mills Springer, Class of '64 was there earlier, about the time Bill and Tannis Parker were at the bookstore.
Rhonda Morgan Butts '68 and Fred Tullos '66 were there, too. Rhonda, Fred, and Marsha (when we talked today) commented that even though we were proud to see everyone wearing shoes, we should have all entered barefoot, or at the most, wearing flip-flops. Bet we would have been the first town to have the townspeople's feet viewed nationally. Only in the south.
Anyway, I recollect seeing these '67s with the hope that others will send in names I may have momentarily overlooked. Our own classmates to show Bob support were: Jan and Andy Tipaldos, Joy Hightower Youngner, Jan Rigdon Bailey, oh, and Martha Hill Lawson was in the art gallery next door with her talented daughter, artist Leigh Ferguson and her beautiful paintings.
Seems like there were more of us. Oh, yes. Well into the taping as we all focused on Bob, we could hear the bookstore door quietly open and close. Wanting the whole country to know that we can be a good audience down here in the south, we continued to focus on Bob's words. In a few seconds, however, we heard very loudly the University of Georgia "Glory" song from someone's ringtone. With the camera toward Bob, some of us quickly turned to see who the someone was. Sitting next to Jan Tipaldos, I had to say the obvious, "Well, wouldn't you know. It's one of our own." I won't mention the person's name; let's just say the person is "Anonymous" (Jeff Kilgore).

BB.
Not much going on tonight. Tannis and I went to the book signing early and bought one of Bob Dart's books. We were able to talk for a few minutes but not too long due to the crowd. We did not stay for the C-Span filming as we were busy with last minute details before our trip on Sunday. Seems like every time we plan a trip we get busy, I'm working on an offer an Tannis showed property today and is meeting with someone tomorrow morning. I guess we need to plan more trips! We don't leave until fairly early Sunday morning so we'll be on line til then. We may be able to check email on the ship or go to a cyber-cafe in Bermuda. Keep us on the loud list.
Bill ParkerYes, it is quiet, Bill. I envy you for the cruise you have planned. I'm not going to tell you to watch your diet while you're on the cruise ship. I know that would be an impossibility, and would put a damper on a good part of what taking a cruise is all about. Yes, indeed, I'll keep you on the receiving end of the Send button, but you'll have to send us some pictures like you did the last time you boat floated. Throw a few "fun size" Baby Ruth candy bars in the swimming pool for me when nobody's looking. BB
Would if I could! We are going with Mike and Marge Sapp and have been in contact with a large group of people thru the cruise critic boards so we will make new cruising friends. Not worried about the diet since the food on cruises is for the most part calorie free. I saw Dwayne this morning and he says only about 12 classmates have signed up for the 60th. I told him that it is still a long way away and we should get some more, but if not those that go will have a great time. Tannis and I are going and plan to have a good time. I have to say that every cruise I have been on has been fun even if the food or entertainment is not the best. If I don't have to cook, wash the dishes, make the bed, make a drink, or anything else, I am happy.
Bill ParkerI thought Dwayne said there was a deadline for reservations. Wasn't it about March 10th? Some of our classmates may think it is too late. Maybe it's time for an update from the Johnson's. BB
Not really a deadline but prices may be higher. With over a year to go the price should not go up too much.
Keep us on the loud list but we will be gone until the 13th. Not sure about internet service on this ship. Maybe find a cyber cafe when we get to Bermuda.
Sorry we are missing the dedication next week.
Later
Bill ParkerBill, you and Tannis are so good to attend just about every event for the Class of '67, whether planned well in advance or planned on the spur of the moment. It won't be the same without you, but since the cruise tickets have already been purchased, somebody has to take the cruise. It might as well be you. Go on out there and float around for several days, take a chance on blowing your diet, and getting too much Vitamin D from all that sunshine. We'll all be thinking about you as you "suffer" for the Class of '67. Maybe we can fool everyone and have the newspaper put in the caption under the picture of the Harold Jennings Memorial dedication, "Not pictured--Bill and Tannis Parker". Think that'd work? BB

thanks to class of '67
hi,
sherry and i just got home -- a long day's drive -- and found great e-mails from janis and jan and andy. y'alls class and website have been wonderful to me and, yes, we sold about 120 books, setting a hattie's record, according to marcia, the owner. tommy waldron came, too, in addition to the other class of '67 members that janis mentioned. tommy and i recalled our boyhoods in our urbana neighborhood. some members of y'alls class also ordered books directly from me earlier. before the anonymous musical cell phone went off, another one rang in the pocketbook of the author's wife but he was so wrapped up in his own rhetoric that he didn't hear either one. to my great relief, it turned out much better than i had anticipated (dreaded?). janis fulfilled her promise to ask a good question -- indeed, sherry was talking on our drive home about how thoughtful it was. i told jan rigdon that i sometimes feel like an online stalker looking at the pictures of y'alls mini-reunions and reading the e-mails but i enjoy them greatly and recognized everyone who came to hattie's from the website.
thanks again,

BB,
Hey ... why is so much happening the 2nd weekend in April? In addition to the other class activities planned for April 11-12, isn't the dedication of the Harold Jennings Memorial April 11th also? Hopefully, Linda & I will be paddling the Florida waterways with the Lowe's on April 11 - and maybe we'll have our own Blessing of the Fleet. But I would love to witness the blessing in Darien. I can remember decorating our boat for the event when it was held in Brunswick. And I am sad that I will be unable to witness the dedication of the Jennings Memorial. I hope a classmate will be able to attend the dedication and send the rest of us a copy of the program and some photos.Another question ... and I wonder if it is just me getting mixed signals about this ... is the "Celebration of Life" Mini with Dianne Floyd Wood/Suzanne Sforzini Simonelli (in Kennesaw, GA?) "restricted guest list" or "invitation only" ... in an effort to keep it a small mini as preferred ... or open to all classmates ... in hopes the mini will ... uh ... stay small?

BB: Please tell Steve H that the Atlanta Mini has always been open to the whole class. I think you know that we have been trying since Jan or Feb to get our classmates to respond, but very few showed any interest. It's still open to all, but they have to let me know soon so I can change the number on the reservation.
Thanks.
Suzanne Sforzini SimonelliSure will, Suzanne. Hey, "Steve H", anyone can come to the Atlanta April 12 Mini.
If my memory serves me correctly, Suzanne, there may have been a few more who were interested, but decided not to go when someone said something about not wanting the group to be so large that no one could talk. After that, I clearly remember suggesting something about you sending out invitations to those you wanted to come instead of me sending out wholesale messages urging everyone to attend. I remember sending you a list of Atlanta Area classmate email addresses and contact information.
Please don't blame "Steve H". Blame me for the low level of interest. Since I personally lost interest at about that time, I just haven't been very helpful at promoting it for you.
Y'all, if you are thinking seriously about attending the Atlanta 04/12 Mini, "Celebration of Life" and contact Suzanne so she can add you to her reservations list for dinner at Mary Mac's, at 6:00 p.m. Thanks for clearing this up for us, Suzanne.

Celebrate Life MiniThe Celebrate Life Mini has come to a close. We wound up down one and then up two. Betty Trotter Sharrock had to throw her cards in before the first hand as she never even left Augusta. Tiger heard she was planning on leaving and he put a stop to it apparently. On the plus side, Andy Hall and Gale Walldorff joined Bonnie (Shelby) and Glen Martin so we wound up with eleven. Rounding out the round table were Yours Truly, Ellen Wolfe Skinner and her squeeze, Robert Hansen, The Simonelli's, Dianne Floyd Wood and Jackie Burney Todd. Besides great fellowship, we also had fried chicken, meat loaf, pork loin, country fried steak, fried green tomatoes, tossed salad, sweet potato casserole, banana pudding, bread pudding and peach cobbler. And loads of iced tea. The earth may well have tilted a degree further away from the sun after we consumed all that.
The talk was great, as usual. Every conceivable subject was touched upon at one time or another (big surprise, huh?), and from a start at about 6:15, we finally got ushered out the door at 9:45. Do we know how to party or what? Andy was handy with the camera so there will be at least one shot of me with food going on or tripe coming out of my big gaqping maw, as well as shots of all the appreciable female pulchritude that was available at the table. I don't know if it was the sulphur water or wholesome clean living that did it, but we produced some mighty fine lookin' ladies in Glynn County circa 1967.
Unless Andy and Gale are on their way to the Delaware Water Gap or Baden Baden, Germany, I expect you'll be seeing some picture before long.

Janice Newbern DownieThanks for the suggestion, Janice. All the pictures have been captioned with names only and sent on to our Kayaking webservant, Steve Holcomb, for posting in the photo section of our Glynn Academy Class of '67 website. Have you visited the website lately? I think it's even more "award winning" now than ever before. Kudos to Brother Spiel, and thanks to Linda for sharing him with us. We hope to be getting some pictures from Steve and Linda, or Jerry and Jo, but they are probably still afloat in their skimpy little boats in north Florida. Any of you who took pictures at the Harold E. Jennings Memorial dedication please send those in, too. This has been a busy weekend for our classmates, hasn't it?

Kayak Adventure III with the Lowe's ~ April 11 & 12, 2008Greetings Y'all!
Linda & I spent two wonderful days with Jerry and Jo Lowe at the LLL near Ft. White, Florida. I believe previous guests would be impressed as we were with the continuing upgrades and improvements to the Lodge accomodations. Anticipating what once would have been aptly descibed as "hobo homesteader", we were pleasantly surprised to be able to relax in "rural rustic" ... and it's air conditioned! They've even added a CD player, but visitors might want to pack a can opener.
A little over an hour after our arrival, we were kayaking down the Sante Fe River. Jerry and Jo had their own single kayaks and Linda and I were in a tandem (2 person) kayak. That way Linda would not need to paddle. Recent rains had made the Sante Fe River less than crystal clear. Even so, a number of large fish could be seen. Numerous turtles were sunning on logs near the river banks. Bird watchers would have been kept occupied identifying birds and calls. Maybe one of them can tell me which bird sounds something like a howler monkey ... and this time I'm certain the noise wasn't coming from Jerry. We even saw a gator ... but it wasn't big enough to go after a kayaker yet. Ginny Springs is one of the highlights of this trip. Floating over it is like hovering over a giant turquoise morning glory. Jerry piqued my interest with a promise of a little white water on the river ... I should have guessed the emphasis was on "little". It seemed we arrived to the take out spot too soon, but my arms would argue differently.
Everyone got busy preparing supper: salad, potatoes and Jerry's special grillades de porc chop tombé dans le sable. Jo even had some finger-lickin' good strawberry cake. Having gotten up early and driven down from North Carolina, we had to retire early. Jerry has built bed frames so we didn't have to sleep on the floor. I think I heard Jerry talk about possibly taking up furniture building.
For breakfast Jo made waffles and I made sure the sausage didn't overcook. Jo's brother Jim arrived from Brunswick and soon we were paddling down the Ichetucknee River. Actually, we drifted with the current as much as we paddled. Fish of differing shapes and sizes swam beneath our kayak. Bright silver flashes from the sun's morning rays illuminated fish darting for cover. Frequently mullet leaped and flopped into the water, one within two feet of our kayak. Tall and ancient cypress and moss hung oaks canopied narrow passages. Fallen trees provided warm sun decks for turtles ... and other reptiles. These also offered opportunities to carefully guide a kayak. Birds heralded our arrival into their neighborhood. Dragonflies hitch free rides perched on my wrist or knee. Admiring Ichetucknee Springs is one bejeweled reward for taking this trip. For us, just drifting silently with the current and listening to nature's symphony is the greatest treasure.
I wish more classmates could have joined us. Jo and Jerry even have two extra kayaks available.
Attached should be three kayaking photos: (1) Jo Lowe, (2) Jerry Lowe and (3) Steve & Linda Holcomb.Thank you, Jerry and Jo for your exceptional hospitality. We sincerely hope we can join you for the next kayaking adventure.

What beautiful experiences Steve, Jerry, and Nancy have shared with everyone! Anyone who cannot appreciate the simplistic beauty of nature certainly has missed a great deal thus far in life. I had a similar experience in 2000.
My late daughter, Jessica, had learned of the financial distress Marineland of Florida was in and had volunteered to go down and spend several weeks doing whatever needed to be done, as her ultimate goal was to work with children in dolphin assisted therapy. After her accident, I contacted them and explained what had happened. Shortly thereafter I received a beautiful letter from the park's management, inviting me to come down and, knowing Jessica's love for those magnificent creatures, participate in a personal dolphin encounter.
Easing into the 60 degree tank - (after I had shoe-horned myself into a wetsuit!)- I immediately met Sunny who became my new friend as we played ball and he jumped through hoops I held.....at least it looked easy! I was amazed at his strength and power with a simple movement of his tail. On numerous occasions, he would sneak up to me only to clear his blow hole in my face, then toss his head back and give his dolphin "laugh." It was almost a spiritual experience being so involved with this creation. And, yes, I felt as if Jessica was sending him suggestions of things to do next.
I regret that I don't write as beautifully as Steve, but if anyone hasn't experienced God's creations in this manner, do so, for your heart will truly be filled.

APRIL 11, 12 & 13 2008April 3, 2008
Billy,
I've had the pleasure of serving as Chairman of this year's Darien-McIntosh's 40th Blessing of the Fleet festival. I'd like to invite all of our Class of '67 and Friends to come to Darien and to have a lot of fun!
Jimmy "Bear" ParkerBelow is from one of our press releases:
The festival officially opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at the McIntosh Middle School Parking lot, with free admission and a fee for the rides. Local legend Vic Waters takes the stage at Waterfront Park at 7:30 p.m. followed by award-winning country superstar Sammy Kershaw at 8:45 p.m. Admittance to the festival on Friday is $5 per person.
Saturday, April 12: The carnival is also open from 10 to 10. A street mini-parade of Classic Cars begins at about 9:45. Take in the Classic Car show up at Mountain Streams Gifts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food vendors will have everything from Brunswick stew to Mediterranean cuisine to Wild Georgia Shrimp to tempt your taste buds. A wide variety of arts and crafts are available with many onsite crafting demonstrations. Fun abounds for kids at the Blessing too. Enjoy the spectacle of the Rotary Clubs Duck Race. Watch thousands of rubber ducks race down the Darien River and root for your very own ducky to win a cash prize. Stick around the waterfront because at 4 p.m. the Coast Guard will put on a Rescue and Survival Exercise. The music cranks up on the waterfront at 5:30 p.m. with Trina Hamlin. The Sensational Sounds of Motown take the stage from 7 to 10 p.m. with their high-class, high-energy show of Motown hits. And who can resist a fireworks display? Get those oohs and ahhhs ready and come to the waterfront around 8:45 p.m. for a spectacular show over the river. Weather permitting, the Re/Max hot air balloon will launch at the Middle School football field at 6:30 through 8:30 p.m.
Everyone gets in free on Sunday. Plan to eat lunch here so youll be on hand for the keystone event of the festival, the boat parade. The shrimpboat parade starts at 1 p.m. This is the largest boat parade on the entire east coast, a moving ceremony of deep import to our seaside community. See the stately shrimpboats approach from the east and receive a blessing. This year the Ministerial Association will bless the boats from Waterfront Park. The last boat in the parade, Smokin Joe, captained by Neil Trutt, will cast adrift the traditional memorial wreath, honoring those lost at sea.
MIDNIGHT CLEAR AWAITING NEWS
Midnight Clear ~ 2008Rory, as I was viewing this picture, I observed how you are again taking your place in the rear, behind the three "younger" guys. There is nothing wrong with you doing this, it was just an observation. Maybe it's because the drums are usually positioned behind the guitar and vocals. My guess is that you are so confident of your talent that you want to give up any ideas of being the center of attention and let those kids share that light. Kudos to you and Midnight Clear, Rory. Your commitment to the Band, to each other, and to living a clean and moral life in a rock and roll world is exemplary. Don't ever change. Let us know when you get some more good news that you can share with us.

Hey Everyone,
I have a good story for you. Yesterday, we had a wedding to attend in Helen, GA. After the wedding we had an appointment to meet a Havanese dog breeder who lives in Helen. I have been interested in Havanese dogs for a long time and wanted to go actually see the dogs and maybe pick out a puppy. Well, as we approached the gate to the property, a young man met us. I took one look at him and said (in stunned, surprised, and nearly incoherent gibberish) "Oh, please tell me you are Midnight Clear!" Well, it was Jeremy, the lead singer, and he very politely introduced himself and showed us the way to the front door. I had a chance to tell him how great I thought the band was and how much I had enjoyed their CD. As it turned, out, the lady I went to see is a really good friend of his and he was there visiting. She is also a friend of Rory's so we talked about him and the band and, of course, the dogs. It turned out to be a really great visit. I told Jeremy as he left that he was already a celebrity, that I had recognized him right away. I just thought all of you who voted for the band would find this story interesting! You just never know who you are going to run into!

Lynette, the big question is did you bring a puppy home. They are too cute. If so, you will have to bring he/she to lunch the next time.
Carol Odum Cotrell***************
Hey Carol,
I had the breeder in Helen hold a 3 week old puppy for me, but called her back today to cancel that. I have found exactly what I want from a breeder in Florida. It's a little female, champagne colored Havenese 12 week old puppy. I'm picking her up tomorrow and just can't wait to get my hands on her! Her name is going to be Lily.
I'm counting the hours.

Billy,
When I was hired to teach middle grades science four years ago at Frederica Academy, they also asked me to head the middle school Quest program. Little did I know the enormous opportunities and blessings that were part of this program. Quest seeks to expose students to historical, cultural, and scientific opportunities. Because of this program I have traveled to NYC, Maine, Nova Scotia, Alaska, and France (this summer). I have gone birding on Little St. Simons and Sapelo Islands, been to countless concerts, Broadway shows, ballets, art shows, Civil War re-enactments, kayaked down some beautiful water trails in Canada, Florida, Georgia, and Maine, and hiked and camped through the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina.Next weekend (April 11-13), I will be taking 20 students to Homosassa, Florida to swim with manatees. Our tour guide for this event is a retired Marine, Viet Nam Vet. Needless to say, we will definitely be in good hands.
I am scheduled to complete my Doctorate in December. Yesterday one of my fellow teachers asked me if I would be leaving Frederica to pursue some other professional course. How could I do that? In addition to the opportunities I have enjoyed through Quest, the close-knit atmosphere, wonderful children and parents at that school are all reasons I plan to stay until they are ready to send me to retirement.
Blessings,
Nancy Fowler Rivers**************
A doctorate, I am so impressed. Never had a doubt that you could accomplish this, just didn't know you were!!! I love when someone sets a goal and achieves it. I am still looking for my next goal..think it may be retirement...which will take a lot less work and effort than what you went through to reach yours!!! :) Here's to the future Dr. Rivers!!! :)
Pam Beasley McCrary***************
I'm toying with the idea of heading back for a doctorate after I retire. That was my goal 30 years ago and life got in the way. Right, Nancy? I, for one, am not in the least bit surprised that you're heading back for that degree. That doesn't mean I'm not proud of you though.
Danny Barker- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Danny,
It has always been a goal I wanted to accomplish before I leave the classroom. Since John and I raised 5 children, we had a child in college from 1990 until 2006. As soon as the youngest graduated from the University of Georgia, I enrolled in the doctoral program. I say go for it!
XOXOXO,

Nancy,
I know this sounds like someone signing a high school annual but here goes...
Back in 1967, there were a few class mates that I knew would make a great difference in peoples lives. You were at the top of the list ... being the kindest, most forthright person I knew and looked up to as an achiever ... with a special gift to make all of the people you came in contact feel comfortable and unique...
Hearing about your ongoing and upcoming events is so encouraging!
I respectfully submit that I would not have expected anything less...
...so very proud of you....

Manatee ScratchingBB, I can now scratch manatees from my bucket list, even though we have scheduled another visit in November when it is peak season. What an incredible experience. My bird buddy, Robin Zimmerman, needs to see the incredible pics I shot of eagles, ospreys, herons and other birds of the Crystal River. We stayed at the pristine Riverside Inn, rose at 5 am and were off on our adventure by 6:30. Even with our wetsuits, that water was freezing. The highlight of the day was our swim in the Crystal River over the fresh water springs. Our captain provided underwater cameras. The pics are incredible. I am not lying when I tell you we swam among schools of tarpon that were bigger than most of my students, as well as sheepshead, snapper and others . In some spots we could stand up it was so shallow, and then we would swim over the underwater springs which were really deep. We were in the water for over two hours. I am so thankful I was allowed to experience this adventure and that we arrived home safely. All 20 of my students told their parents they want to go back in November. It is yet another way to realize first hand the beauty of this incredible planet God made just for us to enjoy.
Blessings,

Nancy,
Next time I'm down there, I'll give you a call so I can come see your incredible pictures. Sounds like your trip was great. I'm not sure I could/would try to swim in freezing water. On another note: the forsythia is in bloom which means only three more snows before we're done for the year. Just a little bit of Ohio trivia for those who live with green and sunshine all the time.
Take care,
Robin Brown Zimmerman- - - - - - - - - - - -
..."green and sunshine all the time?" Uh, Robin, it's supposed to freeze tonight in Smyrna. It's April 13th and I have to bring plants in from the porch.
Danny Barker***************
Blackberry Winter?
Speaking of trivia. We are having another cold snap in Eatonton. I remember my mother calling the last cold snap Blackberry Winter. It is supposed to be the last cold snap that occurs when the blackberries are blooming. Have any of our other classmates from the South heard of the expression?
Wanda Day Hallman****************
Wanda,
I have heard of Blackberry Winter, but I haven't seen any blackberries in bloom yet. Does this mean another cool snap?
Gary ConleyWanda, I, too, have heard of Blackberry Winter. I don't know where the blackberry patches are up here in Newnan, so I couldn't tell you if this is our last cold snap or not. It's supposed to be down in the twenties by tomorrow or tomorrow night. By the way, have you ever eaten frozen blueberries? How about frozen bananas? Frozen bananas are the best. Just cut the banana in half, then cut the halves into quarters and put them in a sandwich bag. They'll freeze in about thirty minutes or less. If you have bananas that are turning brown, freezing them this way will bring them back to a fresh state, and they'll taste great. Less filling, too. Billy B.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Gary C., I agree. I haven't seen any blackberries blooming either. So I guess that does mean we have another cool snap.
Billy, I have had frozen blackberries and I freeze bananas for the grand kids as a nutritious snack in the summer. They are very good.

After a week of mid 70 degree days here in NC and dogwoods blooming, our weather forecast is for mid 40's the next few days with 20's at night and possible snow. The old folks call this a dogwood winter. They say blackberry winter is later usually in late April to mid May.
Jimmy Akins****************
Good evening friends,
Just a few comments...Wanda, I never heard of blackberry winter but tomorrow night is "fixin' to be a three dog night here in Brunswick."
Andy, thanks for the pictures (of the "Celebrate Life" Mini). If you can't go to a mini, pictures bring some of the fun and fellowship to those of us who missed it.
Jeff, You did a wonderful job on the Jennings memorial and I am sorry I missed the dedication.
Billy, several of us went to Mrs. Newberry's service. Billy seemed to be doing as well as anyone can be doing under the circumstances. If he hits a low spot, Jan will be there to support him and he is blessed that this is so.
Nancy, sounds as if you had a great time. I just have one question. When the heck did you have time to raise FIVE kids? You sound like the busiest person I have ever met. Congrats on all of your many accomplishments.
Coop, Welcome home!
Thanks to all for letting me wander all over the field here.
Talk to ya'll soon,
Beth Harper Nazzrie****************
BB,
To use a "Beth" term, here is some stuff about stuff! Now the blackberry & cold thing: I remember hearing that more than once as a child in the South. I also remember hearing when the pecan trees bloom the hard freezes are over. But then I was also told, "You can't catch shrimp on high tide!", which we proved wrong in the 70's when chasing bait to fish with for the day. We caught more shrimp than the cooler would hold and the fishing was not all that good even after the tide changed. Guess that is a question for our pro & semi pro fishing guys. What about it Capt. Gary?
Now as to the lap top meeting it's maker: Sorry about the crash, Rightous Brother, but it sounds like something I would have had happen. Oh well, at least you didn't crash from the fan's position to the lap top. In other words we are glad you don't have to heal up from the crash.
Lowe Life adventures: I love seeing the pics and hearing the stories from the adventures since I am somewhat challenged for that adventure. Not only that I am a little concerned about gators waking up this time of year and being hungry. OK! I know even gators won't eat just anything, but I figure the girls may have been in danger. Sorry, Steve & Jerry, but couldn't resist that one!
Two weekends ago we had the pleasure of having Andy & Gale's family visit with us for several days. We took them on an adventure to the Great Swamp and they seemed to really enjoy the trip, but were concerned on how close we were to the gators in the park. They stayed around and were joined by Debby's brother, Mike (from Chicago), to help us with the April Fool's Rod Run. In spite of the rain I think a good time was enjoyed by all. Mike stayed with us for a week and we toured him in the beautiful Golden Isles and hit River Street in Savannah. While on the SSI we hit Crabby Daddy's and had a great meal, and of course we had to tell him about Crab Daddy himself being one of the famous Class of 67. Food & Service was top shelf and that comes from someone that has enough experience to believe. Mike is like some of the rest of us in that he looks as if he should be a good judge of food. Gale's family once again was a joy to spend time in their presence, and we can't wait to visit again.
To quote Beth again, it's time for me to stop rambling. We hope to see some of the 67 Gang real soon.

Things Are Slow on the E-Train...BB,
Talk about things being slow-hmmm! Not slow around here as we have company coming in for our April Fool Rod Run In Waycross. Andy & Gale introduced us to her sister & her husband in Belmont, N.Y., because we have a common interest in cars. They will be coming to spend some time with us in Waycross. We plan on taking them to the Swamp on Thursday before the car action starts on Friday at 5 a.m. with cooking about 700 lbs of meat. We will have to miss the Jennings Wellness Park dedication service in Brunswick, because we will be feeding around 900 hungry people at 6 p.m. before the actual car show on Sat. a.m. Debby's brother, Mike, is coming in from Chicago to spend this time with us also. Mike will spend a week with us and there is no telling where we will end up on that tour. April has only one open weekend without a car show so we may even celebrate our anniversary that weekend. So, we have to disagree with you about it being slow. OK! Maybe slow on the e-train. . . . Oh, well, I have rambled enough and hope to see the '67 Gang soon until then,

Things Are Slow on the E-TrainBill, if this isn't Danny at his finest, I don't know what is. Once during my junior year the Honors band was supposed to play for some civic event and were supposed to meet at the band hall at 11:00 one school morning. I was in biology and made it a habit of checking my watch periodically to make sure I wasn't late. All of a sudden Jimmy Ellis appeared at the door to the classroom asking if Danny Barker was in there because I was late for my 11:00 meeting. I was flabbergasted because it was only 10:40. It was then that I realized my watch had stopped. Never mind that there was probably a 2-foot diameter clock on the wall I could have seen. Never mind that the time on my watch had obviously been the same every time I had looked. The sad news is that I'm not much better about that stuff now than I was then. I send e-mails from home to work as reminders and vice versa. I leave myself voicemail messages. It's just plain sad.
I bet if I think hard enough I'll come up with another one of these without a lot of trouble.
Danny Barker
Thanks for helping to keep the E-Train rolling, Danny B. You're pretty good about remembering things from way back then. I am so terrible about some things back then, I can't even remember if I wore a watch to school or not.

Hello BB and everybody,
Just wanted to tell everyone I have decided to close my beauty shop and retire. 43 years at the same job is enough. As of June 1st I will be free of one job.Have not been on the E-Train lately. Just reading and keeping up but not participating. Hope to have more time now and maybe something important to say. Things seems to be going well with everyone.
What about the cruise? Is it coming along, Dewayne or Cindy?
We have all been sick around here for a couple of months. Dad was in the hospital and so was one of the grands. Everyone is better now. It has been a busy time.
Glad the memorial for Mr. Jennings is ready. I am proud to know all those that helped.

Congratulations, Patti. I am very excited for you.
Retirement? What's that? I just started another career in Facilities Maintenance at the First Baptist Church in Newnan. My wife, Guilford, has worked there as a ministerial staff assistant for almost 18 years, but I don't usually get to see much of her during the day. Most of my work now is physical, unlike sitting behind a desk in a bank for 20 plus years. I've lost about 10 more pounds since March 3rd. I'm am doing things I really like doing, and learning how to do other things. I don't answer any phone calls, and that is the biggest change other than going from mental to physical. Shoot, by the next Reunion, I'll be as buff as I was in high school. Ladies, back, back. Control yourselves! (Yeah, right!)

Patti, I'm not sure you didn't make more enemies than friends with this announcement. Some of us have 8-9 more years to trundle off to our desks before we can take to our Barcaloungers. Granted, I haven't been at the same job for 43 years. Shucks, I haven't been WORKING for 43 years. I got to ride the College Train and extend my childhood by 5-6 years. In all honesty, my first 40 hour job was in 1974. On second thought, Girlfriend, you've earned this right. More power to you.
Now you can start being more active in all the minis and other '67 folderol.

Congratulations Patti and BB. You deserve to relax at your beautiful place in the country, Patti. BB, I'm glad they hired you on, since you said you enjoy the work. The exercise will be good for you and your bod.
As for retirement for me, Stephen and I have decided it is probably out of the question for us EVER. Not only did Katrina wipe out our savings and home equity, it put us way in debt. We have also moved around a lot and have not built up much retirement. I don't believe we can count on Social Security for anything. While y'all are all lolling about on beaches, we will still be trundling into work with our walkers. (There is a pharmacist at the VA who does that everyday.)

Teresa, I have been saving for retirement for the past 20 years and the way things are going on Wall Street, you may well be having a whole lot of company on those tottering walkers. I haven't looked at my 401k balance in months; I'm too scared to. Thank goodness I had the foresight to buy some property. Wait, that's depressed too, isn't it? Move over, McVeigh. We'll probably have to attend to each other's health too, seeing as Medicare should be good and belly up by the time we hit 66.
Danny BarkerBilly, you asked us to dredge up some memories from high school. Well, this goes back to Jane Macon Junior High. Im really asking who remembers the last name of the older (and much bigger) football player on the JMJH team. He was Sammy something. I think he was about 16 years old. Maybe one of the other football players remembers him. He was definitely an asset to the team.

Remembering Sammy LaRocheOK you former JMJH football players. Pull out your memories. I feel sure that you are talking about Sammy LaRoche. He was a good friend of mine. Sammy was from Darien and was a big handsome guy with dark hair. Sammy married a girl from Darien named Rose and had five boys. Rose died when the youngest boy was around 4 or 5 and the oldest was around 9. Sammy then married Marcia Bluestein Wilder. They divorced after maybe 10 years. Sammy died last year and three weeks after his death his son Chad died in a four-wheeler accident on Blythe Island. One of his good friends, Vic Waters, sang at Sammy's funeral.

Why not go and support Mrs. Mary Jennings and the efforts of the classmates who worked hard and worried, but then celebrated when our goal was met and the project completed? Then head north to Edo Miller & Sons to give Billy a hug from all of us who could not be there for him in his "hour of need".I talked with Jan today and she said this hasn't been easy for Billy. Billy, I must have missed an email for I had no idea of Mrs. Newberrys passing. My memory of her is how beautiful and sweet she was. She always had a smile for everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to Billy and Mike.
As for Mr. Thorpe, he passed back in the 80s while we were stationed in Japan. Sallys older sister Celia has been married to my brother for 43yrs now. A lot of kids were afraid of him but he really was a very kind and loving man. He had the heart of a true poet for he wrote the most amazing poetry Ive ever read. Just last summer Celia shared some of his works with me and it was so beautiful it brought me to tears. Many were about his kids and the joy they brought to him. He was a very loving man who deeply loved his family.

My heartfelt thanks to all the class for their emails, cards, calls and visits. They have really meant a lot to me and my family!Mother Mary, was a real sweetheart and an inspiration to us all! I know she will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched, but I truly believe she will be most remembered for her "gift of gab!" I imagine that after a 15 minute conversation with St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, about her family, friends, and their friends and spouses and pets...and so on.....he had to tell her he would catch up with her later as she was "holding up the line!"
Thanks again for everyone's kindnesses. They will be remembered.

Remembering Mr. George Harris
Billy it is with great sadness that I write to you of the passing of Mr. George Harris, father of Iris and Terry. Mr. Harris passed away around 6am in LaGrange, Ga.
As many of ya'll know, Mr. Harris ran the Rec Center in Brunswick for many years,1951 thru 1964 until he left to work for the Jekyll Authority from 1964 until he retired in 1974.
He was a wonderful man who will greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
I myself have some very fond memories of Mr.Harris as I'm sure all of ya'll do to. My favorite was the day Iris and I decided to take a day off from school. Knowing we couldn't stay on Jekyll for we would be caught for sure, we naturally took off for Saint Simons feeling extremely proud of our wise decision.
We walked into Ward's Drug only to see Mr.Harris sitting at the fountain grinning broadly with a "Well hello there girls". We were promptly followed to GA feeling like idiots.
Jane Williams Kirby (66)***************
April 10, 2008
Billy B,
I was very sad to hear of Mrs. Newberry's passing, and also Mr. George Harris. I spent much of my young life on Jekyll Island, and there were three individuals who I'll never forget. My first job on Jekyll was working maintenance at what was then called The Carriage Inn. My boss was Mr. Thorpe, Sally's Dad. Everyone told me to be careful around him because he'd bite your head off. I found out that he was one of the nicest men I ever worked for. He spent a lot of time teaching me how to fix things around the motel, and when I became the "Pool Boy", Mr. Thorpe was always around to help me when I'd have a problem with the pumps.
Mr. Harris was a dear person also. While working on Jekyll, Mr. Harris would come by and say hello and check and see how I was doing. He and I became friends, and he would take time out of his schedule to just talk about sports or see if I was having any problems.
Then there was Mrs. Newberry. She was like a second Mom during those summers. I spent as much time at Billy's house as I did at mine. Mrs. Newberry usually had a house full, all Jekyll beach bums and she always took her time to make sure we were okay and to see if we needed anything.
I can truly say that these three people had a big effect on my life growing up, and I'll always think of them and those wonderful days of Jekyll.

Remembering Mr. George HarrisHi Billy, first, let me tell you how I've enjoyed the e-mails from GA classmates I know and from those I don't and, second, to thank you for "keeping us in touch"!
You asked about recollections of my memories from 1960 and I've thought of a couple that might be of interest to our classmates:
In 1959, the Red Terrors football team won our region (I was a Junior) and played the LaGrange Grangers for the South Georgia Championship in Brunswick. I remember the crowd and how many people were there and how excited we were. GA had George Rose and LaGrange had Jimmy Burson, who were two of the greatest running backs in Georgia football history, so the stage was set for a great game. We lost 12-6 but it was a great game. The interesting thing is that I moved to LaGrange, Georgia, in 1968 and have had many conversations with members of that Granger team that beat us and have developed friendships with some from that team. Two members of the Granger team were neighbors of mine. Bobby Beck, who many on our team will remember, was in our backfield all that night, lived directly across the street and another member, Danny Daniel, is one of my best friends. The Head Coach of one of the LaGrange teams that later played for a championship in the early 80's asked me to give the pregame devotion to his team and I recalled to them our game in 1959 and those experiences that you never forget.
Recently, we lost an icon in the recreation arena with the passing of Mr. George Harris. I played football and baseball in the recreation league in the 50's in Brunswick when Mr. Harris was there. I remember he was such a friendly person and was interested in every single person. After I moved to LaGrange, I ran into him in a local hardware store in the early 70's and he remembered me and we had numerous encounters after that where we shared our recollections of those times in Brunswick. Both my boys played in the recreation league here in LaGrange when Mr. Harris was it's head and that was special. The one thing I remember most about him was when we ran into each other and struck up a conversation, he always built you up, especially in front of others, and he was so genuinely interested in you. Another interesting point is that Mike Daniel (brother of Danny in the previous paragraph) succeeded Mr. Harris as head of the Recreation Department when he retired. Mike was a great friend also. It's interesting how our lives intermingle with mutual friends along the pathway of our lives. A lot of people here in LaGrange were sad to hear of his passing and will miss him as will those in Brunswick who had the privilege of knowing him too.
Hope this brings back fond memories for some of our classmates who were there during those times and is interesting reading for those who weren't.

Billy, Do You Know Bubba ?Copper Wire
After having dug to a depth of 10 yards last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.
Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, California scientists dug to a depth of 20 yards, and shortly after, headlines in the LA Times newspaper read: 'California archaeologists have found traces of 200 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.'
One week later, the "Newnan Times Herald", a local newspaper in Georgia, reported the following:
'After digging as deep as 30 yards in cotton fields near Newnan in Coweta County Bubba Johnson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Georgia had already gone wireless.'

Hello Billy,
Just wanted to drop a line to catch you up on what we've been up to lately. This past Friday Janice took a vacation day and we traveled to Daytona Beach. She wanted to shop at Macy's and that's the closest one. From there to her favorite antique shop, and then something for Bob, The Ocean Deck Bar & Grill. It's right on the beach, and great for viewing and relaxing! Then back to Jax that evening, bummer. On Saturday it was our "movie date", and being Janice's turn to pick, we saw Nim's Island. Chick movie, light, but heart warming. Next week it's Leatherheads.
On Sunday I parked myself in the lazy boy for the NASCAR race, but that night we went to the George Strait concert here in town. Boy, did I bank a lot of brownie points for that one! Janice absolutely loved it.
Bob Watson***************
Hello Bob,
Boy you're my kind of man. Want to know why? Any guy that takes his wife to see George Straight is o.k. by me. I'm sure she loved it. Wish I could have been there. If I could have I would have hid in her purse. Ha!Ha!. That man really knows how to sing and he never has to move out of his spot. A great entertainer. I'm so glad you and Janice are having a great life. My best to her as always. You're right - all of us are a good group don't you think? Friends like ours only come around once in a life time. I'm glad to call you two of mine.
Always your friend,

Speaking of great concerts, I saw Jeff Dunham at the Cobb Energy Centre Friday night. He put on a two hour show and I think I lost four pounds from laughing. For those of you not in the know, just go to YouTube and search on "Jeff Dunham." He's an absolutely hilarious ventriloquist. While he's not beyond a few naughty words, I would put him at PG-13, which is a vast improvement over most these days.

Walter was in RARE form Friday night. Jeff is actually going to be doing a Christmas special this year so he warned us he'd be doing some Holiday material even though it's April.

Of course my favorite Walter line is, "Welcome to Wal-Mart. Get your s___ and get out!"
Daniel BarkerBB,
I know what we have said about forwards but I thought this one might be a good one for the group.
George Utiss"Law of the Garbage Truck" One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We weredriving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of aparking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on hisbreaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver ofthe other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxidriver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was reallyfriendly.
So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your carand sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me whatI now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run aroundfull of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full ofdisappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump itand sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Justsmile, wave , wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage andspread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks takeover their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,so..... "Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones whodon't."

Jeff Kilgore in the NewsA spokesman for a group opposed to expanding the Detention Center on Newcastle Street feels good about the group's stand.
Jeff Kilgore, speaking for Save Downtown Brunswick, is convinced that he and others opposed to expanding the Detention Center between I and J streets close to downtown will get their day in court.
He is confident a lawsuit filed by the group in February will hit its target.
Among other things, the suit claims that the Glynn County Commission violated the state's Sunshine Laws when it decided to expand the jail in an executive session. Executive sessions are closed to the public.
The county denied that and other claims in responses filed in Superior Court March 7 and has warned that it may be on the threshold of initiating eminent domain proceedings against property owners who refuse to sell their holdings in the proposed expansion area.

What a great day at the Augusta National! There is so much fun at the Par 3 tournament...glimpses: Justin Leonard's daughter asking if she can sign her name for patrons, John Rollins holding his four month old at the 8th tee of the par 3 overlooking Ike's pond, seeing the gleam in Boo Weekley's eye as he greets Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player; Todd Hamilton refusing to sign a young girl's shoe and being ridiculed by the patrons; Todd Hamilton telling the patrons that the girl is his daughter messing with him, watching a hole-in-one at number 8, hearing multiple hole-in-ones at number 9, wondering about Sergio's need to have his BIG bag on the par 3 course, noticing who wasn't signing autographs: Jack, Arnold, Phil, and Jim Furyk; seeing the youngsters of the players having fun with the crowd and other golfers. There is no other event, in my opinion, like the Par 3 tournament at the Masters.

It's a great location: close to the action, the concessions, the restroom, check stand, on course gift shop, plus it's around of a lot of patron traffic. I've seen many old friends and former students in this area. If anyone gets out to the tournament, check out the area around number 7. You just might see an old friend.

Worth a Shot ... Mosquito sprayI can't wait to try this in the summer! This was written by someone who actually tried it. What the heck. If it works great, if not, just out a couple of bucks.
I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared.
The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it....
My aunt in Jesup sent this email to me. She swears by it. We don't have a lot of mosquitos around our house in TN. Someone may want to give it a try for sand gnats also. Let us know if it works.
Lynn Marr-LoughrieCould be a hoax.....I didn't check it out. Has anyone ever heard of this? BB

Billy B,
When I was growing up on the South-end, mosquitoes and gnats were a normal lifestyle. My good friend and next door neighbor, Arthur Cook, had a Mom that knew how to take care of it. Mrs. Cook told us to drink vinegar. While we played outside, the vinegar came out in the sweat, and the bugs never bothered us. However, neither did any of our friends.
Larry Laneps: Come to think of it, I never made above a C in school, and that was in PE. I wonder?
***************
April 10, 2008
Billy,
I echo Larry's prescription for mosquito repellent using vinegar. As long as I can remember, each day my Daddy drank a glass filled with half vinegar, half water, and a tablespoon of honey. He said that it kept off the mosquitos, good for the arteries, and help with blood circulation. The honey was a natural way to become immuned to pollen, and other flowering allergies. While I am not sure about the arteries and the blood circulation, he was never bothered by mosquitos, and did not have allergies, even as a farmer or working for Soil Conservation, which required him to outside most of the time. We use to think it was all in his head, but now that we are "wiser" in our years, there may be some truth to it.I do know some people are more proned to attract mosquitos than others...body scents, I guess.
Well, enough said....
Betty Trotter Sharrock***************
My mother is a great believer in vinegar as well -- even sometimes buying special organic vinegar. She drinks it daily and has for years, rinses her hair with it, and even puts it in her bath water -- she wants for me to do that, too. She also gets eaten up by mosquitoes. Some people just attract them more than others. The Snopes site told why -- carbon dioxide, scent, warmth, closeness of blood vessels to skin surface (fair-skinned people), pheromones, etc.
Teresa McVeigh***************
Betty and all, I had an aunt who used to mix some Avon "Skin So Soft" with her bath water, and she was never bothered by mosquitoes. Can't remember if she had trouble with sand gnats. It might be a more pleasant experience than ingesting vinegar and honey with water. Of course, someone very wise said, "If it works, don't fix it". Stay with the whatever concoction that works for you.

Mosquito preventionI found the best way to prevent mosquito and knat attacks is just what we did ... we moved to Virginia! What a relief to be able to walk outside at twilight and not be eaten alive, or smothered by knats in my face!
Seriously, while we lived near the bay in Pensacola, we installed a system that many riding stables use for flies, but where we were it was used for mosquitoes. It was fantastically effective. It was called "Mosquitoes-no-more". It was a spray system that was set to automatically go off at dawn and at dusk. The tubing ran underground then up to the eaves of the house, also into the shrubs and trees. We never had a mosquito problem after we had it installed. It was maintained (refilled and checked) regularly by the provider.
Ann Cassell Klumpp ~ '60****************
I swear by the Mosquito Delete by Coleman. Before we started using the system, we would have to come in at twilight. Now, we can stay outside all day and all night. When we had a problem with the device, we called Coleman and they sent us a newer model...no charge!
David SmithPS: I live in Augusta and happy to be above the gnat line.

Hello: If you ever are in the vicinity of Wrens Georgia stop on US. 1 and buy some gourds. Go home and drill a 2 and 1/8 inch hole in them. I have two poles with eight gourds each on them. About the middle of March Purple Martins will show up and start up summer quarters in the gourds. That's a total of 32 birds with an average of about 6 babies born about June. So now we are up to about 192-200 birds flying around in late June. They eat approx. 2000 mosquitoes per bird a day not counting flies and such. O.K. you do the math. They will leave around the 4th of July and the cycle starts again next year. Do not buy plastic gourds and do not buy a martin house. They will come to real gourds everytime. Look Purple Martins up on the internet. I guarantee this,

Two products are out on the market, Manor By Riverdale and Lontrel By Dow, both can be used in warm months and both are expensive per unit, but it is potent stuff! Manor is my favorite--it smokes Dollarweed!

I had a Harley once:I had a Harley Davison motorcycle when I was about 7 or 8, maybe 9 years old. Didn't cost me a dime, and I didn't have to put a drop of gas in it. Needed no driver's license either. All I had to do was clip on some baseball cards with clothes pins in such a position where the cards would come in contact with the spokes of my bicycle. The faster I pedaled, the more noise they made. Drove the neighborhood dogs crazy! Sometimes I would use empty cereal boxes and cut similar shaped cards when I didn't want to waste too many of my baseball cards. Kids today probably wouldn't even know what a clothes pin is, and how many of the 7 to 9 year olds even ride bikes anymore? Just trying to remember something to share from the past.

LOL Hi Billy:
My grandsons still ride theirs! Almost 10 and 12. Along with skateboards, etc.The "ultimate punishment" for my son was to take his bike away. His dad would hang it high in the garage. My daughter enjoyed hers a lot also, but didn't seem to mind having it taken away as much as Bry. It was his LIFE!
I put playing cards on my bike! I was a tomboy. Climbing trees and hanging around my Dad when he worked on cars. Guess that's why I still love the smell of gasoline! That's what he cleaned his car parts with. Simple pleasures to be sure, but ones we remember!! Thanks for sharing.
By the way, Premium gas in Visalia is over $4.00 a gallon. We laugh when we hear on the news that gas will soon be $4.00. Hello, we always pay high prices in CA. It has to do with all the stuff they add for emissions, etc. This is from my son and another relative who work in the oil business. I'm not making it up.

Coop Left at the StationOkay, everybody. I need your help.
Charles Cooper says he hasn't received any messages from me in over a week. I know things have been slow, but he should have gotten at least 50 within the last week, don't you think? He thinks he has been "left at the station".
Here's what I need for you to do. Let him know that my messages are getting through to you just perfectly. If you are a hot mail customer you might have some suggestions to offer him on how he can insure getting my messages.
Coop is a good friend to us all, and there is no way he would be eliminated from receiving our messages. This mission will do two things. Number one, help to determine if it's not just me that Coop is not getting messages from. And, Number two, it will give some good Class of '67 action to Coop. Go ahead and do it now. And, you might as well say something nice to him while you're at it. He'll appreciate it, I'm sure.
I wonder if this is why we haven't heard from him in such a long time. Or, could it be that his thoughts have turned to his sister, Cheryl ('65), and her illness. If you find out anything about that, please let us know. Coop, if you get this, please let us know. We don't want you to miss anything.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It sure has been quiet on the E-Train for the past few days. Betty T, maybe you should send that new survey out again that you sent a couple of days ago. I'll pass it out this time. How about a report from those of you who attended the Atlanta 4/12 Celebration of Life Mini tonight? Did some of us go by Edo Miller & Sons to be with Billy Newberry, Jan, and the Newberry family this evening? How about the Kayakers in Ft. White, Florida? Did anyone take their Blackberry or wireless Laptop? Please check in and let us know how you are doing. Jeff Kilgore says a report of the Harold E. Jennings Memorial dedication is coming soon.
I think I'll go to bed with Guilford and watch the Lifetime channel movie. Is anyone watching that now?
I'll check back in the morning before going to church to see if we have any answers to all of these questions. Don't forget your weekly devotional, Larry.
Love to all,

I don't know why, but some of your e-mail has started going to my spam mail. Carl Crews
Thanks, Carl. I think that has something to do with how long the string of previous email messages is attached to the most recent message. It could possibly be something else though, because I have received messages from Kathie Ray Akins and from the Brunswick News in my Junk Mail box. It might have something to do with the "stationery" Kathie uses that I usually remove before sending it out to everyone. It might have something to do with the number of recipients a particular message is going out to. Who knows? As long as we are still getting the messages, it really doesn't matter much to me. Maybe, if you haven't done this already, you could add my email address to your address list, and see if that makes a difference. Just a thought.
Thanks,

Billy,
I made some modifications to my spam settings and apparantly I am now back on the train again. I don't know how it happened exactly, but something in one of your emails must have caused hot mail to think you were a spammer for some reason. Although I was off the train for a week, apparantly I just got back on at the next station. Hallelujah!I received many kind emails from friends responding to your request that they get in touch to let me know the train was still rolling and I thank them one and all. There were too many to reply to individually, so I will thank them all here and now rather than risk leaving anyone out. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL. You know who you are. I was overwhelmed.
I left work a little early and Helen and I had a pleasant afternoon drive up to Brunswick for the dedication ceremony. We did not know about Billy's Mom's service that evening until after the ceremony but were not dressed properly to attend. We stopped off at the GA Pig restaurant and went back home.
It's good to be back.

Computer crash
Billy B,
My laptop has met its maker, and that does not mean someone in Malaysia. While replacing a ceiling fan, I dropped the fan directly upon my laptop, destroying the screen. I can still use it, as long as it is connected to another monitor. I cannot see anything, so I'm without my computer, and had to wait till I got home tonight to use Sue's computer. I do not know if my first attempt of a devotional got to you or not. I have just typed it again on Sue's desk top model, and sent it out to you.I'm going to be without a computer for a while, using Sue's when I get back to Waycross. If someone sends me something, I may not respond for a few days, but I'll check when I get home. I'm hoping to get a replacement screen in a few weeks, but until then, it's life without a laptop. Can you imagine not having a cell phone and computer for a week? How did we live back in those golden days when there were only two TV stations to watch and two AM radio stations to pick up.
